It is a retractor, chopper and nucleus cracker for symmetric bimanual phacofragmentation.
The two choppers are inserted through micro incisions at about 180 degrees. The chopper is used to pull back the edge of the capsule in order to bring the two choppers together centrally from the equator and thus split the core; which clearly divides it into halves and quarters. A further division can be made with a second instrument in combination with a phaco tip.
